I ran into a network issue after upgrading to Windows 10 that I’m hoping I can keep from happening to you. I got my upgrade and kicked it off. After a bit of waiting, Windows 10 was mine to use. Sadly, as I began to look around my new environment, I noticed I had
NO INTERNET!!!
I tried everything -new cable, renewing my IP, reinstalling drivers. Nothing worked.
As a consultant, I connect to many client machines using VPN. So I had a number of VPN clients installed on my machine. It turns out there is a bug with the upgrade where if you have VPN clients installed on your machine, the upgrade fails at installing your network drivers.
The way to fix this is to uninstall all your VPN software from your machine (along with the Device in your Device Manager), upgrade to Windows 10, then reinstall your VPN clients. Be warned though, I noticed a lot of the VPN clients that I need for clients on a daily basis don’t work with Windows 10 yet. So you might need to hold off on your upgrade until that can be fixed.
If you didn’t do this step, and already upgraded to Windows 10, you will need to revert back to your previous version of Windows. Just type “Revert” or “Restore” into the search bar at the bottom of the screen and follow the prompts.
As a heads up, the same thing occurs with the virtual adapter with Hyper-V. So you will need to do the same thing if you are using that Windows feature. There is a fix for this that can be found here .
